Nicknamed 'The Big Unit', former major-league pitcher Randy Johnson was one of the most recognizable figures in sports during his prime. Standing almost 7-feet tall, throwing side-arm from the left side, Johnson intimidated many hitters in his 22-year playing career.
Johnson played for 6 teams and holds the all-time strikeouts per nine innings mark among starting pitchers. He is second all time in strikeouts - first for left-handers. Johnson threw two no-hitters in his dominant career.
Aside from five Cy Young awards and a co-MVP in the World Series, Johnson also made an appearance on television in 'The Simpsons', and he made a cameo appearance in the movie 'Little Big League'.
With his playing career coming during the over-production days of sports cards, Randy's cards are very affordable. A collector could pick up a bulk amount of commons and inserts and still get back change from a 20 dollar bill. Randy's best rookie card was the 1989 Fleer #381. The card has multiple variations due to Fleer's efforts to rid the background of a tobacco ad. Some of these corrections were less successful than others, leaving the variations ranging wildly in price.
